Madre Mar
Murals
The Madre Mar phase of this project will focus on murals in strategic locations in downtown Rincón, Puerto Rico. Through engaging public art we can tell the story of the decline of our reef systems and give admirers a way to learn more and get involved. A large colorful mural paired with a QR code to scan to learn more about Isla Mar Research Facility will be paramount in grabbing the attention of the large amount of people attending events in our town square.
Public engagement
During the installation of the art we wish to utilize volunteers from Isla Mar’s Youth Program to help create the art while teaching them about the power of artivism. We plan to hold a workshop for growing plants which can help minimize coastal erosion as well as facilitate beach cleanups.
